Considering counseling can bring up all kinds of questions.
1. Do you work with other issues besides relationships?
Yes! We are here to help anyone who is struggling – whether that is with stress, anxiety, depression, grief, illness or other life stressors. Our goal is simple: we want you to feel better.
2. What if I want to come in for couples counseling and my partner doesn’t?
Then please come in. Many people find that as they seek help and feel better, the relationship improves.
3. As a therapist, are you going to tell me (or us) what to do?
We are here to help you sort out your thoughts and feelings so that you can make decisions in ways that will help you feel better. We won’t tell you what to do but we will support you as you explore your options.
4. Why therapy? Shouldn’t I be able to handle this by myself?
The research shows that talk therapy can help many people. Many of our clients report relief from stress, depression, anxiety and relationship difficulties. Other clients seek therapy because they long for deeper meaning in their lives or a greater sense of peace. While you certainly have inner resources and may indeed be able to handle this alone, we believe that having an unbiased third party – who only cares about you and you being happier – can make the process easier and sometimes faster.
5. Can you guarantee I will feel better after therapy?
Oh, we wish we could because we want everyone to be happier. We can say that most of our clients feel better and that we will do our best to help and support you on your journey. And we want your feedback along the way. We will actively seek out your opinions on how you see the therapy is progressing so that we can be of the most and best service to you.
6. What happens on the first session?
Great question! When you arrive, please have a seat in our waiting room. At your appointment time, your therapist will greet you and invite you into a confidential consulting room. Your therapist will invite you to share your story and will help you articulate why you are seeking help at this time. If all goes well, you and your therapist will then decide how often you will meet and what issues you will work on together.
